Minah Shin

Director and Master

Minah, originally from Korea, arrived in Canada at the age of 19. Her exploration of Pilates commenced there, finding comfort in its ability to improve posture and relieve pain. Fortunately, living near the Merrithew Toronto Corporate Training Centre, she immersed herself in comprehensive courses in 2015. Also, the Apprenticeship program solidified her enthusiasm for teaching Pilates.

After spending 8 years in Canada, Minah started a new chapter, moving to Australia in 2017. In 2018, she founded "Blue Sky Pilates," not just as a studio but as a center for Merrithew courses and workshops, addressing the limited availability of such offerings. Now a STOTT PILATES® Instructor Trainer, Minah facilitates convenient access to Merrithew programs for Australian students.

Minah's commitment to learning resonates in her role as a dedicated knowledge sharer. Eager to share her accumulated wisdom, she thrives on guiding students. Recently, she broadened her expertise to Gyrotonic®, becoming a certified instructor, showcasing her enduring passion for exploring diverse movement practices.

Pilates instructor

Joanne Kim

Joanne is a Pilates instructor in Blue Sky Pilates. She had three different intentions of starting Pilates in her life. First, she wanted to look for an exercise that could utilize her flexibility. Pilates helps to increase flexibility as it has lots of stretching exercises. Second, she had injury and pain with her wrist as she used to work as a barista before starting work as a Pilates instructor. A lot of hospitality employees suffer wrist pain. The reason behind this problem would be that they were not using muscle in a proper and safe way. Since she began Pilates her pain started to disappear and found the correct way to use muscles and strengthen them.

Now she wants to share her experience and knowledge that she has gained during studying to help others who suffer from pain and also who want to avoid injury. Third, she wanted to find an exercise that would be joyful and continuously she could do. She had tried many different types of exercise including Pilates, and she felt that Pilates is the one she wanted to do for a lifetime exercise as she felt joy and also got benefits from it.

It was having so much positive impact in her life and without any second thoughts, She decided to leave university to become a Pilates Instructor. She loves all types of Pilates, whether it is Mat or utilising the different equipment as She believes that it all has its unique taste and assistance in achieving different goals for individuals. Pilates instructor

Fiona Chai

Fiona used to work in the office and went to the gym regularly, but she stopped when she had her first son. Her life got so busy with the newborn, especially during the Covid-19. Her husband worked long hours and she had to take care of her son by herself most of the time. She ended up with quite serious lower back pain and wrist problems.

These problems got worse after her second boy was born and she found the need to do postnatal recovery. She did the traditional Chinese postnatal recovery treatment but she still needs to keep exercising to stay healthy and fit. That is when Fiona started practicing Pilates regularly.

Until now, she has spent over 600 hours practicing, observing, and teaching Pilates. Not only does she feel like her mind and body are refreshed, but she is also sharing her own experiences with others. Pilates impacts her busy life in a quite positive way. Fiona hopes to help many more people in the same way.
